John Riches, vice-chair of the JCT Drafting Committee, will speak at the forthcoming Westminster Briefing Conference.

The conference, 'Building a strong, sustainable construction industry: developing partnerships, committing to people', will be hosted by the House Magazine on 17 June in Westminster.

John Riches will be joining on the panel Paul Morrell, the government's new chief construction adviser (CCA), Mark Farrer, chief executive of ConstructionSkills, Philip White, HSE's chief inspector of construction, and Don Ward, chief executive of Constructing Excellence.

The conference will discuss key policy and practice issues facing the construction industry.

John Riches will be participating in the session which focuses on putting policy into practice: successful supply chain partnerships in the public sector; examining examples of effective, early integration and public sector construction procurement; best practice case studies in implementing sustainable construction, and identifying key themes from across case studies and delegate experiences.

John will highlight JCT's recent initiative in leading the enhancement of sustainability guidance and formulation of provisions within building contracts, facilitating consideration of sustainability on all projects, particularly those using JCT contracts, which account for four out of five of all building projects across the country.

As the only consensual contract drafting body in the industry, JCT is a pivotal force within construction.

Any changes made to its standard forms of contract, whether reflecting new legislation or improving standards, have the support of the whole industry when published including both the supply and demand sides: public and private employers, contractors, subcontractors and consultants.
