JS Actuators has recently supplied three high-torque, high-speed Neptronic actuators to Lafarge Plasterboard for their manufacturing plant in Bristol Three UB8000 Neptronic actuators were installed by BSL Brammer, the UK's leading distributor of industrial MRO products, to close a large damper in an air handling system in Lafarge's plaster mill

The Neptronic range of actuators is ideal for this type of application as it includes actuators capable of torques as high as 450Nm.

Mike Philpotts, mechanical technician at Lafarge Plasterboard, commented, "We were experiencing problems with the manual closing of a damper on a large fan in our plaster mill.

Fan motors were burning out due to the damper not being manually closed in time.

"We needed an actuator with a high torque that could close this damper automatically as soon as the fan is turned on.

BSL Brammer selected the Neptronic actuator for its high torque value of 200Nm.

Since the Neptronic actuators have been in place we haven't had any fan motors burn out, which has meant considerable savings." Lafarge Plasterboard was established in 1987 and employs around 350 people at their Bristol factory manufacturing the highest quality drywall systems for UK and global markets.

The JS actuator range consists of digital and analogue rotary and linear actuators for dampers, multi-signal actuators, high-torque actuators and fast actuators for precise control applications such as fume hood cupboards.

Designed for simplicity they are quick and easy to install with trouble-free commissioning.

The range also includes failsafe actuators that incorporate the patented Enerdrive system.

Unlike other failsafe actuators that use mechanical springs to return the unit to a failsafe position in the event of power failure, the Enerdrive system uses super-capacitors.

An electrical charge is stored in the capacitor to move the actuator to its failsafe position.

This means that Neptronic failsafe actuators require less energy to operate as the motor does not have to continually wind a spring, resulting in a longer motor life.
