JustPlant launches auction and sale website

A JustPlant product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Apr 24, 2008

JustPlant launch dedicated to the sale, advertising and auction of plant and machinery, a first for the web and construction industry.

"The benefits to those selling heavy plant and construction machinery are instant," explains co-founder Zain Saleh.

"In 'real life', selling plant means driving it or hauling it to an auction centre, with all of the incumbent health and safety considerations and - quite possibly - driving it or hauling it back to base again if it fails to sell".

By contrast, on JustPlant, each auction is live for seven days for the cost of GBP4.99.

And if the item fails to sell, it is automatically listed for another week, and again if needed, for up to a month.

Described as 'an eBay for the loading bay,' JustPlant offers all of the benefits and ease-of-use of its well-known counterpart: users can watch and track items without actually bidding, contact sellers and asses them via a 'feedback' system, receive automated emails if they're outbid during an auction, and so on.

It also offers one major advantage.

JustPlant charges only a listing fee for each auction - the seller has no commission to pay to the site once their sale is complete.

eBay users will also be familiar with sellers operating out of virtual 'stores' and this feature is available on JustPlant, too.

JustPlant has been designed as an intuitive, sales-focussed website.

Each item has either a 'newspaper' or 'hammer' icon to denote a classified or auction sale.

Items appear in one of over 100 categories, ranging from Scissor Lifts to Buckets to Reed Cutters to Harvesters.

Early adopters of the site have shown the most popular categories so far to be:.

1.

Commercial Vehicles.

2.

Grabs.

3.

Rollers.

4.

Breakers.

5.

Compressors.

It's free to register and free to bid on JustPlant.

Auction listings cost GBP4.99 for seven days.

Classified ads are available at GBP6.99 for seven days, 15 days for GBP9.99, or 30 days for GBP16.99.

Buying and selling can take place in pounds sterling, Euros or US, Canadian or Australian dollars.

And you can change currency literally with one mouse-click, using a unique 'switch currency' button.

All transactions are covered by QuickSSL, utilizing 128-bit SSL certificates - from GeoTrust - thereby offering the highest level of encryption or security possible.

"There's a massive need for a sale, auction and classifieds site aimed purely at plant and heavy machinery," comments Zain Saleh.

"For almost 50 years, UK buyers have been restricted to just one system - Resale Weekly - but their auctions are run in real-time, unlike the week-long eBay-style auctions we offer.

A market overview/competitor matrix is available on request.

JustPlant is the combination of IT expertise - from Zain Saleh - and plant and construction industry expertise from Michael Brown.

Zain has spent ten years as an IT contractor, overseeing major software rollouts for blue chip companies primarily in the banking and finance area, such as Alliance and Leicester, MBNA, Boots and Cap Gemini.

On the other side of the equation, Michael Brown has spent 20 years in civil engineering and currently heads up a firm of directional drilling specialists, BroLaw Construction.

Auctioning on the website is managed by rwAuction Pro, an online auction design and automation system in use on many bid-based e-commerce sites around the world.
