Kaba installation improves security and meets fire regulations at the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils' (CCLRC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

Leading door manufacturer and supplier Kaba Door Systems, has completed an installation at the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils' (CCLRC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

The installation has improved security on the site and helped meet fire regulations at the world-class research facility, which is based near Didcot in Oxfordshire.

The CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory has around 1200 staff and its main facilities enable research into new materials and structures ranging from turbine blades to X-ray laser research.

Kaba installed two Geryon security revolving doors and accompanying screenwork to staff entrances at the back of the main building.

The doors were required to improve security and replaced two sets of existing wooden double doors, which led from the staff car park.

Once installed, card readers were fitted to Kaba's security doors by ADT Fire and Security to provide fast, automated access to only authorised staff with pass cards.

The doors were also fitted with collapsible wings to meet fire regulations and to ensure that all employees can exit the building quickly and easily in case of an emergency.

"As a research-based laboratory, security at the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton site is extremely important, " comments Julian Bromley, project manager at Kaba, who led the job.

"The new revolving doors are ideal for the job as they enable only authorised staff to enter but still provide fast, automated access".

"By fitting the collapsible wing versions of the doors, we have also ensured the laboratory meets the latest fire regulations".

Kaba Door Systems has over 80 years international experience in the design, manufacture and installation of a leading range of commercial and industrial door systems.

With regional centres across the UK, Kaba also offers a nationwide entry repair and maintenance service.

The company is a member of the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) and is NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA) approved.
