Kalzip is a class act at Cardiff school

Striking new 'S' shaped Junior School building complete with a curvaceous Kalzip roof.

To provide the ideal environment for the junior pupils of Howell's School in Llandaff to learn the three R's, a striking new 'S' shaped Junior School building complete with a curvaceous Kalzip roof proved to be the educated choice.

Over 900 square metres of tapered Kalzip 65/400 stucco embossed aluminium standing seam were specified for the challenging project and installed by approved Teamkal contractor Kilobuild .

A range of Kalzip fabrications including curved and corner flashings, gutters and rainwater pipes, further complement the innovative roof structure.

The spacious new school building comprises eight classrooms and art room, with an additional development, which also features a curved Kalzip standing seam roof, housing a state of the art ICT suite, library and music room.

The new Junior School block has been built to cope with the increased intake of pupils at one of Cardiff's most prestigious educational establishments.

Howell's School is part of the Girl's Day School Trust, the largest group of independent schools in the UK, which funded and oversaw the £1.8 million building programme.

As the new classroom facilities sit alongside the school's existing buildings, some of which date back to the early 1860's, a durable, low maintenance roof solution was a main priority in the specifying process.

A complete Kalzip package, including appropriate layers of thermal and acoustic insulation, was also ideally suited to meet the stringent requirements of a modern school building.

The pupils and teachers were so pleased with the finished result that they held a special competition to name the building and decided on 'Ty Harpus', which translated, means 'happy house'.
