The Rich Mix, a new media and arts centre in London is breaking new ground for both its celebration of the capital's cultural heritage and its striking design that features over 1,437 square metres of Kalzip 65/434 AF stucco-embossed aluminium standing seam.

To achieve the challenging textured appearance of the mansard roof and rear elevation of the area that houses the building's three new cinemas, Teamkal contractors TR Freeman installed the Kalzip sheets vertically to form a series of cascading triangles.

Complementary stucco-embossed Kalzip flashings were also specified in order to define the individual sections that are each unique in shape and positioned at different angles.

The distinctive, almost flat appearance of the Kalzip profiled sheets along with the accuracy and high standard of TR Freeman 's installation have undoubtedly helped create a new visually stunning London landmark.

Mansell Construction Services was appointed as main contractor for the project, which was designed by Penoyre and Prasad Architects.

In addition to the three new cinemas, the centre boasts a performance gallery, exhibition spaces, studio workplaces and a cafandeacute;.

The main elevation of the centre has been designed to incorporate a screen onto which images can be projected and the building has also been extended upwards to provide a rooftop function room and performance area that affords spectacular views across the city.

Developed from what was a derelict concrete framed building, the Rich Mix centre marks an important stage in the ongoing regeneration of the Bethnel Green area of East London.
