Tubular handrail system complies with DDA
Kee Klamp is helping Swindon Health Centre meet DDA requirements with a new tubular handrail system, created using its specially developed 500 Series.
Reading-based Kee Klamp is helping Swindon Health Centre meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) with a new tubular handrail system, created using its specially developed 500 Series.
Fittings from this unique range have been used to construct a new guard and handrailing structure beside a crossing point for disabled visitors at the main entrance to the Centre, ensuring safe and easy access for all visitors.
The new structure satisfies key specification criteria, ensuring that the Health Centre can comply with the obligations contained in the DDA for building owners to provide non-discriminatory handrails and guardrailing on stairways and ramps.
At the same time, the installation fulfills Part M of the Building Regulations which recommends an outside diameter tube size for such structures of between 40mm-45mm.
The Kee Klamp 500 series is specifically designed to give a smooth handrail with size 7 tube (outside diameter 42.4mm).
In meeting these requirements, this guardrailing structure at Swindon Health Centre provides optimum safety, guidance and accessibility for all users.
The 500 Series of Kee Klamp fittings can also be powder coated in a choice of RAL colours to meet the visibility and "not cold to the touch" requirements of the DDA.
At Swindon Health Centre, they are finished in a royal blue colour, ensuring an attractive appearance whilst benefiting the sight-impaired Centre visitor.
The 500 Range fittings were specified for the project by architects CMS Bath .
Incorporating a total of twelve new fittings, the 500 Series is supplied with versatility, ease and speed of installation in mind.
Ideal for use in creating new structures, the range can also be used as a retrofit solution, because it includes an offset fitting which allows a new handrail to be added onto an existing structure of appropriate size.
When and where required, the 500 Series can be easily augmented with fittings from the established Kee Klamp fittings range to create a complete, cost-effective answer to DDA requirements.
