Safety with new handrailing system

In line with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), Kee Klamp is helping Luton Borough Council ensure the safety of all visitors to its Memorial Park Bowling Green, following the installation of a new handrailing system, constructed using fittings from the company's 500 Series.
Luton Borough Council engaged Bedford-based CP Contracts, to undertake various works at the bowling green as part of a wider project to upgrade its facilities and help meet the requirements of the DDA.
A key feature of these improvements involved the installation of new handrails at key points to assist access for users.
The resulting tubular structure provides access and safety handrailing alongside a flight of steps and raised parapet area adjacent to the bowling green.
"The Kee Klamp 500 Series meets the specification provided by the DDA" explains Chris Park, Managing Director of CP Contracts.
"It's also a solution that's quick and easy to put together, making it a very cost-effective approach.
Clearly, both considerations are important in any building works project of this kind".
By installing the handrailing, the Council is ensuring compliance with the latest health, safety and legislative guidelines.
Under the terms of the DDA, all commercial and public facilities owners are obliged to provide non-discriminatory balustrading and handrailing on stairways and ramps.
Meanwhile, the Building Regulations recommend an outside diameter tube size for such installations of between 40mm-45mm.
The Kee Klamp 500 Range is designed to give a smooth handrail with size 7 tube (outside diameter 42.4mm).
It comprises a total of fifteen fittings and is supplied with versatility, ease and speed of installation in mind.
All fittings can be powder coated in a choice of RAL colours to meet the visibility and "not cold to the touch" requirements of the DDA.
At the Memorial Park Bowling Green, they are finished in a smart black finish which gives an attractive appearance.
Ideal for use in creating new structures, the range can also be used as a retrofit solution, because it includes an offset fitting which allows a new handrail to be added onto an existing structure of appropriate size.
When and where required, the 500 Range can be easily augmented with fittings from the established Kee Klamp fittings range to create a complete, cost-effective answer to DDA requirements.
