Reading-based Kee Klamp has recently completed another impressive installation of its free-standing KeeGuard roof edge protection system at the University College London.

The system has been fitted at the University's off-campus Halls of Residence, Ifor Evans Hall, to provide effective permanent protection for maintenance crews accessing the roof, ensuring full compliance with health and safety requirements.

Access to the roof of this three storey Hall of Residence in Camden is routinely required by contractors carrying out running repairs, inspection schedules and service to rooftop plant and water storage facilities.

In these circumstances, the University recognized that roof edge protection plays a vital role, providing optimum safety in all weather conditions and security in the event of an involuntary slip, trip or fall.

The popular KeeGuard system has thus been specified by consultant Dave Smith, in a versatile and cost-effective solution, extending across the different roof sections of the building.

The KeeGuard system is completely free-standing, working on the proven counterweight principle, to provide secure protection in all applications.

Fully tested to EN 14122 : pt 3, HSE Specialist Inspectors Report No 15, the KeeGuard system complies with the requirements of HS (G) 33 - Safety in Roofwork, HSE Sheet 21 - "Working on Flat Roofs", BS6399: Part 2 1995 Wind Code and all other relevant Health and Safety, EU and CDM regulations.

All assemblies utilise fittings approved by Tanduuml;V, Europe's leading independent test house, for extra peace of mind.

Installation simplicity is one of the key advantages of the system.

Supplied in pre-fabricated kit form, incorporating as few as five main assemblies, the KeeGuard system is extremely easy to put together with no special installation skills or tools needed.

The appropriate assembly modules simply need to be correctly positioned at the roof edge, then connected together using 48.3mm tubing and the right connection fittings from the well-established Kee Klamp fittings range.

These fittings are then locked onto the tube using a hex key provided with the assembly kits to provide a strong, rigid and maintenance free connection between tube and assembly module.

Versatile enough for installation across differing roof levels, as on this project, the KeeGuard system can adapt easily to changes in height or direction.

Because it is free-standing, it requires no drilling into the roof itself, thereby avoiding potential leaks into the building due to any damage to the roof covering.
