Marriott Construction, founded in 1890 by Robert Marriott, was this week announced Business of the Year 2005 at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards.

Organised by Northamptonshire Newspapers and Northamptonshire Chamber, the local business advisors and champions, the awards are now in their 15th year, and were this year hosted by ex-Great Britain sprinter Kriss Akabusi.

Beating off stiff competition from other successful and established companies, Marriott had evidently excelled in the key requirements of showing clear business objectives, demonstrating a sound knowledge of their marketplace, and successfully meeting customers' needs.

Chairman of Marriott, Roy Murphy, responded to the news: "We're overjoyed to receive the accolade".

"While we are an operating division of an international company, the Kier Group, we retain the Marriott name that is so well established in the area".

"The business continues to expand, and following the move to the new Rushden office in September Marriott has demonstrated its continued commitment to Northamptonshire and the employment of local staff and subcontractors.
