Helping with health and safety for Carlsberg

A Kimpton Acoustics product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Aug 2, 2007

Kimpton Acoustics has helped to ensure health and safety at work for Carlsberg employees at the company's bottling plant in Northampton, following a major acoustics design and installation project.

The plant, which produces 54,000 bottles of beer per hour, is a fast-paced and noisy environment and the sound management solution provided by Kimpton has been designed to help the facility comply with changing health and safety regulations and protect staff.

Explains Bob Jones from Kimpton Acoustics: "Carlsberg has an excellent health and safety record and monitors any potential issues that could pose a risk to its employees.

The noise generated by the bottle line production conveyors was having an impact on operational staff who worked within these areas so the company asked us to come up with solutions that would help manage the noise levels whilst maintaining the plants productivity levels".

Kimpton Acoustics was appointed to undertake three installations across the plant to meet the specified health and safety regulations.

Bottle line conveyors are characteristically noisy over the distance they travel to the filling station, therefore acoustic canopies were installed to reduce noise levels whilst ensuring both total visibility and multiple access points along the full length of the conveyor.

Fully air-conditioned noise havens are becoming increasingly popular in automated plant areas and just such an area was created for use as a shift managers office as part of the scheme.

Finally, to reduce the noise level at source, and therefore provide a quiet environment for machine operators standing adjacent to the equipment, Kimpton installed a acoustic enclosures to the rinser infeed, labeller infeeds and Wraparound infeed.

The design, manufacture and installation of the noise management solutions was completed within budget and with minimal disruption to the daily activity of the plant.

Martin Essex, Projects Engineer, at Carlsberg commented,"The specified noise reductions were achieved on all three installations, resulting in a quieter environment where employees can work and communicate.

The acoustic canopies provided quick and easy access to the bottles on the enclosed conveyors, whilst maintaining total visibility along the full length of the conveyors.".
