Kingspan Insulated Panels has taken flight in Holland by helping to create the 'Aviodrome', Europe's first aviation theme park.

The main building, hangar and operational hangar are clad in a wide range of roof and wall insulated panels, covering an area of over 25,000m2.

They have helped to create a stunning fa?ade that is a fitting testament to Holland's rich flying legacy.

The theme park is a living museum and provides an interactive overview of Holland's history of flight.

Its facilities include a large exhibition hall, a 250-seat cinema, a restaurant, conference rooms and shop.

A number of historically important aeroplanes are on public view here and it is the future home of the Dutch National Aeronautical Archives and Library.

The use of Kingspan Insulated Panels' roof and wall systems at the Aviodrome has allowed architects, Nooderlicht Architecten, to create a dazzling futuristic and unique appearance, which holds great visual appeal.

Not only is the complex aesthetically pleasing, but the insulated panels offer significant practical benefits for the owners, Nationaal Luchtvaart Thema Park Aviodrome, such as energy conservation and low maintenance costs.

For the main building, which is home to a large collection of historically important aircraft, the roof was constructed using 8,000m2 of Kingspan Curved Roof System to create a distinctive curve.

KS1000AWP architectural wall panel systems were used to produce a clean, crisp modern look, which accentuates the visual impact of the walls.

At the building's entrance, the architectural wall panels were painted in a red and white checkerboard for heightened aesthetic appeal.

6,000m2 of KS1000RW was fitted to the T2's hangar and a combination of that and KS1000AWP were installed on the operational hangar.

The result is a sharp progressive look that sits neatly with the feel of the surrounding buildings.

For additional aesthetic appeal, one of the walls was painted in the colours of the Dutch flag.

Project leader from Nooderlicht Architecten, Rob Bosman, comments: "This was a complicated but fulfilling project to work on, helped by Kingspan Insulated Panels.

The company presented clear, achievable and innovative solutions to the design criteria.

Not only are we delighted with the visual style of the park, but the use of Kingspan Insulated Panels' system has allowed us to add greater creativity to our concept.

"The theme park is already proving incredibly popular with the Dutch public, helped in no doubt by the futuristic feel of the Aviodome.

There is an interesting blend of appearances and whilst the visual impact was a key requirement, we didn't want to overlook the practical benefits.

As all panels were factory constructed off-site, it allowed for a simple and rapid installation that performs to the highest specification." The sheer scale of the theme park is impressive.

It covers 90,000m2 of floor space for activities as well as housing a dynamic collection of aeronautical memorabilia.
