Construction started on the Layley and Hollin centre in Middleton in spring 2004 and it was completed by the autumn, ready for the official opening in January 2005, with Brooks Construction carrying out the roofing work for main contractor Bramall Construction.
Barry Brooks, managing director of Brooks Construction, explains: "Kingspan KS1000 RT Roof Tile was specified because it conforms to the local L2 planning regulations, and it gives the appearance of a conventional roof tile but without the need for additional insulation".
"We have a long-standing relationship with Kingspan because they provide the best before, during and after sales service".
The KS1000 RT Roof Tile system is lightweight and contains a FIREsafe insulation core.
It satisfies stringent planning processes and its single fix means that it can be installed directly onto steel or timber purlins, eliminating the need for battens, roof felt and a separate layer of insulation.
The new centre in Tintern Road, Hollin is part of a local Sure Start programme to makes life easier for parents.
From this one centre parents from Langley and Hollin can buy baby milk, register new births, let their children use a mobile toy library, undertake parenting courses, and utilise the creche and play scheme facilities.
"Sure Start" centres are a key element in the Government's strategy to deliver the best start in life for every child and 525 local Sure Start programmes are now in operation for children from disadvantaged areas nationwide.
