The new Technium Sustainable Technologies building at Baglan in Wales is an exercise in promoting sustainable development.

The unusual 3,400 mandsup2; building was constructed to the highest specifications using premium performance insulated roof and wall panel systems from Kingspan Insulated Panels.

The idea behind the Technium concept is to provide environments that encourage new enterprises, research and development.

This latest Technium, which includes the Solar Centre facility, is located on a seven acre lakeside site at Baglan Energy Park, part of the Baglan Bay development initiative from the Welsh Assembly Government and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and BP.

The cutting edge design was developed to the energy efficient BREEAM excellent standard, and the composite insulated panel technology helped it to achieve this.

The sweeping wing shaped roof features Kingspan's Lo-Pitch roof system in Goosewing Grey, whilst the unique Optimo truly flat panel system in Silver and Grey on the walls reflects the streamlined look of the overall building.

Both systems offer premium lifetime insulation continuity and performance, enabling ease of compliance with thermal Building Regulations, Part L and Section 6.

Exceptional air tightness to 5 mandsup3;/hr/mandsup2; then enhances thermal effectiveness beyond the minimum regulatory requirements.

Lo-Pitch and Optimo are both Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approved to LPS 1181 and Factory Mutual (FM) approved with Firesafe property and business protection risk technology.

Another advantage of the Kingspan composite panel systems is that they also allow fast track construction, with accelerated build speed through pre-engineered, single component, single fix installation, which reduces site time by up to 50%.
