The Silk Warehouse is crowned by a modern, thermally effective composite panel roof system from Kingspan Insulated Panels.

The remarkable resurrection of a significant landmark building, Manningham Mills (also known as Lister's Mill) in Bradford, is well underway with the first phase of the transformation from dereliction to luxury accommodation already complete.

The Silk Warehouse now houses 131 prestige apartments, but instead of the leaky, ravaged roof that was a legacy of the years it stood empty, the building is crowned by a modern, thermally effective composite panel roof system from Kingspan Insulated Panels.

The 10 year programme of refurbishment has been undertaken by award winning property developers, Urban Splash.

The mill complex is set on a 27 acre site, and at its height the 16 acres of working floors provided space for 11,000 mill workers.

Today, the elaborate 250ft chimney still dominates the Bradford skyline, but instead of being a constant reminder of glory days gone by, it now symbolises the hope of rebirth for the city, with the promise of office, retail and creative art developments as well as housing within the complex, bringing over 1000 new jobs into the area.

It cost approximately GBP17m to convert the Silk Warehouse into 95 flats and 36 twin level duplexes, which boast stunning views out across the city towards the Dales.

Light and access is brought to all of the levels via a dramatic atrium sliced through the existing floors.

The Kingspan panels used on the unassuming roof offer high levels of thermal efficiency, lifetime durability and LPCB approved fire performance.

Contractors Watershed Roofing installed 2000m of Kingspan's KS1000 LP Lo-Pitch system, which was selected as being particularly suitable for the project as the roof had a pitch of less than 4.

Lo-Pitch also has the advantage of accelerated build speed through pre-engineered, single component, single fix installation, which can significantly reduce site time and facilitates project predictability.

As a final benefit, the KS1000 LP System is available with Kingspan's unique Total Guarantee Assurance, which provides up to 25 years guarantee for coating, thermal and structural performance.
