Size, speed and teamwork from Kingspan
Kingspan has been developing relationships across the mechanical handling industry to further improve on-site installation.
Teamwork has been the key to the successful and speedy construction of three large scale distribution centres as part of the largest speculative industrial and warehouse development currently under construction in the UK.
Giant warehouse developers Gladman Developments used leading cladding Contractor Hathaway Roofing on the two most recent phases of the Cosmic Park project at Sherburn in Elmet, near Leeds.
Very short timescales of just 14 weeks per building were involved, so to keep the tight programme of construction on track, KS1000 RW Trapezoidal and KS1000 MR Micro-Rib panels from Kingspan Insulated Panels were used on the roofs and walls.
These fully integrated composite insulated panel systems provide fast track solutions for even the most demanding specifications, with accelerated build speed through pre-engineered, single component, single fix installation, which reduces site time by up to 50%.
Kingspan has been developing relationships across the mechanical handling industry to further improve on-site installation.
As well as increasing build speed, the aim is to make it easier and safer to construct on site with their insulated panels.
John Sutch Cranes were used on the project in order to achieve this.
Their lifting capacity ranges from eight to two hundred tonnes, and their company supplies the most modern all-terrain and truck-mounted telescopic cranes.
Gladman is one of the country's biggest developers of speculative industrial and distribution space, and work closely with a number of construction partners to achieve their ambitious projects.
Hathaway also has a commitment to improve working relationships and construction practices and continue to support the move towards "Partnering Agreements", so the opportunity to forward plan and liaise with Kingspan worked well.
The new warehouses are built on an impressive scale, with 15 m eaves.
The largest of the three buildings, Jupiter, is 61,800 mandsup2; and is worth over GBP36.5 m.
The smaller two, Saturn 1 and 2 are 17,180 and 29,700 mandsup2; respectively.
The Kingspan KS1000 RW Trapezoidal and KS1000 MR Micro-Rib panel systems provide lifetime insulation continuity, thermal performance and achievable airtightness down to 1.1 at 50 Pa ensure compliance with thermal Building Regulations.
The panels are manufactured with Firesafe technology and have achieved Factory Mutual (FM) approval and Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approval to LPS 1181, bringing the additional benefits of property and business risk protection to the buildings.
Kingspan offer a Total Guarantee Assurance of up to 25 years on their products, covering all of the key performance areas for their insulated roof, wall and facade systems in a single comprehensive package.
