Kingspan products put zip into
specialist project
AGBP2.2 million construction project in the West Midlands has benefited from two of Kingspan Insulated Panels' innovative products.
Kingspan's KS1000 LP Lo-Pitch has been used for the roof, and KS1000 LS Longspan for the wall cladding on a large new laundry for Zip Textiles Based just two miles from Birmingham city centre, the building has more than doubled production space for Zip, a leading supplier of linen and workwear to hotels and restaurants

Kingspan Insulated Panels has given strong backing to the publication of the long-awaited Technical Briefing on the Fire Performance of Sandwich Panels Systems from the Association of British Insurers
The company had a number of stipulations for their new purpose-built base, including low maintenance and sustained performance in high humidity conditions.
Zip's need for a hygienic working environment meant there were specific demands on the internal shape of the building, and it was found that the KS1000 LS Longspan system provided an ideal solution.
Marc Worrall, of project architects Marc Worrall Associates, attests: "The use of Longspan panels not only contributed to the external appearance of the building, but was a cost effective and practical solution for the building's primary use as a commercial laundry." As KS1000 LS Longspan panels can span up to 8.2 metres the need for secondary supports is removed, increasing usable floor space and reducing the number of surfaces upon which dust and dirt can accrue.

New 'Design and Construction Guide', from Kingspan Insulated Panels, leading the way in design solutions and in the manufacture and supply of pre-engineered insulated roof and wall systems.
This significantly reduced Zip's maintenance costs, time demands and concerns over standards of hygiene.
Furthermore, the efficient installation process for Longspan speeded construction times and saved contractors Pioneer Construction time on site.
Another important requirement was that the building fabric could withstand the high humidity environment expected in a large laundry, and this was fulfilled by the application of a plastisol coating.
Applied to the internal liner of the panel, the plastisol finish is designed to withstand a variety of environmental factors whilst maintaining performance, durability and colour stability.
KS1000 LS Longspan is available in the 6 external profiles of the architectural wall panel range, and is also available in a range of specifications in compliance with Part L2 (England and Wales) and Section 6 (Scotland) Building Regulations.
Its high performance PIR core affords favourably low U-values and low air leakage rates, whilst the range of external profiles provides an aesthetically pleasing facade.
KS1000 LP Lo-Pitch was used for the roof of the building, which was set at a pitch of 3deg to maximise internal height.
Available in lengths of up to 28 metres, KS1000 LP Lo-Pitch is specially designed for such applications - in this case panels of 18 metres were used in order to span from ridge to eaves in one panel length.
The factory-built single fix nature of KS1000 LP Lo-Pitch allows for quick and efficient installation and complies with current HSE and CDM regulations.
By using a single length panel ridge to eaves, time spent working at height is minimised and roof integrity is improved through the removal of panel to panel end laps.
The system utilises the same PIR insulation as other Kingspan panels and so benefits from low air leakage and excellent thermal performance.
KS1000 LP Lo-Pitch is available in LPCB and Factory Mutual insurer-approved FIREsafe forms to ensure high levels of fire safety, and also has BBA certification.
KS1000 LS Longspan also has LPCB approval for assured fire performance.
Both products are also covered by the Kingspan TOTAL Guarantee which offers 25 years guaranteed thermal and structural performance.
