Kingspan TEK specified for 2008 Carbon Challenge
Kingspan Off-Site, manufacturer of TEK Building System, announced as main supply chain partner in project to create England's first zero carbon community, at Hanham Hall, near Bristol.
Prior to its regeneration, the Grange Road housing estate in Petersfield, consisted of poorly insulated, precast, reinforced concrete properties, which were constructed just after the Second World War and had an expected life span of only 30 years.
Drum Housing Association wanted to regenerate the area by replacing the existing properties with affordable, energy efficient and sustainable housing for local people.
Kent based housebuilder, Croudace Homes in Partnership (CHiP) worked with Drum Housing Association on the project and specified the TEK Building System.

Kingspan Off-Site cracking the code at Futurebuild
Kingspan Off-Site, UK's largest manufacturer of MMC building systems, will be at Futurebuild 2008 exhibiting systems designed to enable projects to meet the new Code for Sustainable Homes.
John Carver, project manager at CHiP commented: "Every aspect of this regeneration project has been carefully considered to ensure it will provide a sustainable community environment, in which people will want to live now and well into the future".
""Building high performance, desirable homes was an essential part of achieving this vision and we specified the TEK Building System as it offered total design flexibility, fast build times and, importantly, very high levels of energy efficiency.
The new properties on the Grange Road development have been constructed up to three storeys high to make the most of the available space on-site.
The homes have been built in a series of courtyards and landscaped areas, each one designed to provide a comfortable, spacious, thermally efficient and enjoyable living environment for residents.
The TEK Building System has a U-Value of just 0.20W/m2K, which will serve to cut the heating bills of the Grange Road properties by up to 80% and reduce carbon emissions by up to 70% compared to traditionally built homes.
As such, the TEK Building System has been central to the project securing an EcoHomes rating of 'Very Good'.
Kingspan Off-Site's TEK Building System is based on SIPs (Structural Insulated Panel) technology.
It is able to deliver such a low U-Value due to its composition of 110mm of high performance rigid urethane insulation, which has a zero ODP (ozone depletion potential) sandwiched between two sheets of OSB.
This thermal performance is further enhanced by the high level of airtightness the system delivers, which is achieved by the panel's unique sealed jointing system that minimises the amount of air that can pass through the joints, once constructed.
Kingspan Off-Site is Europe's leading manufacturer and innovator of timber engineered building systems, providing high performance solutions to the private housebuilding and commercial sectors, as well as the public sector.
The company uses the latest in off-site manufacturing techniques to produce complete timber and structural insulated panel engineered systems for a broad range of applications.
