Dramix, the steel fibre reinforced concrete solution from Kingspan and Bekaert, enabled contractors at the new Goldbound Developments Building to eliminate mesh from the project's composite floors.

In addition Dramix also helped to save approved installers Metaldeck of Skelmersdale 10% against typical installation times The application of Dramix at the Goldbound building shows how trapezoidal metal floor decking coupled with steel fibre reinforced concrete can provide an effective structural solution for a restricted access city centre project

The three-storey, private development of 10 flats and 3 retail units used 1000 square metres of Kingspan profiled metal decking in a confined site in central Manchester.

Due to the confined nature of the site engineers Lawrence Gottlieb and Associates had to seek out a flooring solution that ideally, did not require a crane for installation.

Kingspan Multideck 60 profiled metal decking was selected as the ideal solution for the project.

Not only does it provide savings in concrete volumes compared to other decks on the market, it can also be used in conjunction with Dramix steel reinforcing fibres, which eliminates the need for mesh.

Made from hard-drawn steel wire for high tensile strength, Dramix fibres are pumped with the concrete, directly onto Kingspan Multideck.

This system replaces the two-step reinforcing process of laying steel mesh followed by concrete pumping, traditionally used for reinforcing metal floor deck.

It also eliminates the time and cost involved in buying, transporting, storing and laying mesh.

Kingspan approved fixers, Metaldeck of Skelmersdale, undertook all fixing and concrete pumping for the highly complex steel work layout.

The resulting composite slabs are exceptionally strong and offer a proven 1 and 1.5 hour fire rating.

The Steel Construction Institute endorses the structural design properties of composite flooring created by the combination of Kingspan Multideck 60 and Dramix steel fibres.
