The design of the school has reflected demanding requirements in respect of sustainability, indeed it is claimed in some quarters that it is the most sustainable school in the UK, and the building envelope has been designed with high levels of insulation.
M21 were the specialist installation contractors for the project and a total of 3,000 square metres of 90 mm thick Kingspan Kooltherm K12 Framing Board was installed throughout four buildings which make up the main School and Sports Centre.
Alan Lyons, project manager for Stepnell said "It was imperative that only highly thermally efficient products were used on this project and the fact that Kingspan Kooltherm K12 offered one of the thinnest insulation solutions without compromising these superior levels of thermal efficiency and U-values made it ideal".
Kingspan Kooltherm K12 Framing Board is a CFC/HCFC-free, premium performance rigid phenolic insulation product designed specifically for timber and steel framing systems.
As well as a thermal conductivity as low as 0.021 W/m.K, Kingspan Kooltherm K12 Framing Board boasts negligible smoke obscuration and Class O / Low Risk fire rating.
