Kingspan KoolDuct pre-insulated ducting has been installed in BBC Scotland's new headquarters at Pacific Quay, Glasgow.

Situated on the south bank of the River Clyde, the five-storey purpose-built digital broadcast centre incorporates studios, offices and large public areas Ductform Ventilation UK specified and installed Kingspan KoolDuct for the project

Roland Ferry, Operations Director for the company commented "The Duct was an 8 metre x 3 metre extract plenum 50 metres long and by specifying KoolDuct we were able to achieve a modular site assembly, as the system was prefabricated into smaller more manageable sections and fitted together on site".

"Having used the Kingspan KoolDuct system previously, we have found it to be an excellent alternative to traditional galvanised ductwork and is ideal for specifications where space or weight is restricted".

Compared with heavy galvanised sheet metal ducting that requires a second step to its installation process to both vapour seal and thermally insulate the ductwork, Kingspan KoolDuct offers a high performance, lightweight and robust ductwork system that requires only a single fix installation process.

This not only makes it a high speed operation for projects on which time is critical but also provides the advantage of a considerable saving in space.

The fast track performance of pre-insulated ductwork has been confirmed by an independent analysis by highly respected consultants Rider Levett Bucknall (formerly known as Bucknall Austin), which concluded that the Kingspan KoolDuct System can be installed up to three times faster than sheet metal ductwork.

The rigid phenolic insulated panels, of which the system is comprised, are faced with reinforced aluminium foil on both sides making Kingspan KoolDuct very durable, strong and also aesthetically pleasing in open to view applications.

Rigid phenolic insulation offers several further advantages, including excellent fire resistance with negligible smoke emission and first class moisture resistance.

Other benefits of the pre-insulated ductwork 'complete system technology' enhance its appeal to specifiers.

The System's low level of air leakage and superior insulating properties can result in electrical consumption savings.

With the KoolDuct System, ventilation air flows over aluminium surfaces and does not have contact with any material containing loose fibres, making it ideal for high specification projects.

A CPD presentation which addresses key issues such as running costs and environmental implications for all insulation related applications is available from Kingspan Insulation Limited.

Also available are product-specific presentations, featuring the revolutionary Kingspan KoolDuct System.

These can be adapted to suit individual audience requirement.

Like all windows and doors fabricated using Sheerframe profile systems, Campion Glass's windows feature multi-chamber frames to reduce heat loss.

The PVC profile itself is also manufactured using calcium organic stabilisers, rather than lead additives, and is totally recyclable at the end of an independently certified 35+ year service life.
