Kingspan Insulation and Building
Regulations
Kingspan Insulation has produced two guidance documents on achieving conformity with ADL1B, the refurbishment of dwellings, and ADL2B, the refurbishment of non-dwellings.
Ensuring compliance with the current Building Regulations Approved Documents L1B and L2B (ADL1B and ADL2B) is not always easy One reason for this is a lack of clear guidance relating the performance of specific products to the standards for thermal element replacement and alteration set out in the Approved Documents

Recognising this need for clarity, Kingspan Insulation has produced two guidance documents on achieving conformity with ADL1B, the refurbishment of dwellings, and ADL2B, the refurbishment of non-dwellings.
They provide simple and effective advice and are available in print or from the Kingspan Insulation website.
With both ADL1B and ADL2B setting minimum U-value standards for various thermal elements, the Kingspan guides give detailed advice on how best to meet these minimum U-values through the use of modern insulation materials.
They also identify potential problems that may be encountered throughout a refurbishment project and suggest how to avoid them.
One issue is the reduced thermal performance some insulation products can suffer if exposed to water ingress or air infiltration when in situ.
Possible solutions are suggested, such as specifying Kingspan's rigid phenolic or rigid urethane products, which are unaffected by these conditions.
The Kingspan guides also provide assessments of different thermal elements and their specific demands.
For example, there are a number of important issues associated with the refurbishment of flat roofing such as how to avoid water ponding and maintain thermal performance.
Other assessments include how best to refurbish masonry walls, pitched roofs and floors.
Kingspan produce a wide range of rigid phenolic and rigid urethane insulation materials designed to meet the specific demands of different applications.
Excellent thermal performance within minimal material thicknesses make these products a firm favourite on refurbishment projects where neither useable space nor U-value performance can be compromised.
