Knauf Insulation reduce energy emissions

Knauf Insulation is working with the residents of Queensferry in Flintshire to reduce energy emissions from the town's memorial hall.

The historic hall, built by Sir William Gladstone in the 1920s, is made of corrugated iron with wooden boards inside making the venue icily cold in winter, and causing crippling heating bills for the committee which is why the Hall has not been used to its full potential and fallen into disrepair.

A neighbour of Knauf Insulation's Queensferry plant and head of the restoration committee, Albert Dodd, approached the company after a structural survey showed the hall could save up to 50 per cent of its heating costs if it was insulated efficiently.

With the expert advice and help of Knauf Insulation upgrading of the insulation will allow the building to be used to its full potential again.

Knauf Insulation donated 250m of Rocksilk Flexible Slab - a non-combustible, lightweight rock mineral wool with excellent acoustic, thermal and fire resistance properties - for the project to make it a more pleasant environment to be in - as well as more energy efficient.

The insulation will also help the residents of Queensferry do their bit to save the planet.

Statistics show that Britain is in danger of becoming as hot as the tropics by the year 3000* if we don't become more energy efficient so it's up to all of us to help cut carbon emissions.

Improving insulation in buildings could help to reduce CO2 emissions by 460 million tonnes per year - preserving the environment for future generations and the residents of Queensferry are leading the way by installing insulation in the hall and cutting their carbon emissions.

Mr Dodd, from Church Walk, said: "The hall is a beautiful building with great local and historical significance".

"Without Knauf Insulation's help we wouldn't have been able to restore and insulate the building, and our energy bills would have continued to be astronomical".

Kevin Day, Queensferry plant manager for Knauf Insulation, said: "Up to 40 per cent of a house's heating costs could be escaping through your roof with CO2 emissions from buildings accounting for 460 million tonnes of CO2 pollution emitted each year, which go on to cause harmful greenhouse gases".

"We're proud to be able to help the restoration committee in the regeneration of such an important site, and we hope with our help the Hall will once again be the heart of Queensferry.".
