Knauf specifies sustainable insulation for NHS
Knauf Insulation has been involved in the specification of insulation to achieve the required U-Values for an NHS Foundation Trust Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Knauf Insulation was approached to solve initial challenges in achieving the desired thermal performance for the timber framed building.
Knauf Insulation Crown Frametherm Roll 40 and Rocksilk Universal Slab were specified for Roseberry Park Mental Health Facility, which has been designed to replace the existing St Luke's Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Frametherm Roll is manufactured specifically for application in external walls in timber frame construction and demonstrates effective thermal conductivity ranging from 0.032 to 0.043 W/mK.
Frametherm also offers effective sound absorption characteristics.
Frametherm Roll is lightweight, easy to install and sized to fit tightly between standard stud widths without any cutting.
Frametherm Roll is manufactured from glass mineral wool; an inherently sustainable insulation which is rot proof and odourless.
There is a high content of recycled glass bottles used in the manufacture of the insulation.
Rocksilk Universal Slab was specified throughout the internal walls of the hospital, and was selected for its acoustic properties.
The product's fire performance limits the spread of fire as it holds a Euroclass classification A1 to BS EN ISO 13501-1 for non-combustibility.
It will not give off toxic smoke or suddenly ignite due to flashover.
Rocksilk Universal Slab was manufactured with Ecose Technology, a binder which reduces the product's embodied energy by up to 70 per cent.
