The Litmus Building is a GBP45 million 14 storey development of 296 one and two bedroom apartments on Huntingdon Street.

The development is a landmark in the 56 hectare Eastside, one of three regeneration zones managed by Nottingham Regeneration Limited.
Drywall contractor L Reynolds (Building Systems) Limited used more than 60,000m2 of Knauf Soundshield, sourced through Sheffield Insulations, Loughborough, for the 40 week drywall project.
Knauf Drywall's technical team assisted in development of the innovative 185mm separating wall construction, designed for optimal space efficiency and excellent acoustic performance.
This construction between apartments consists of twin frames of 50mm Knauf 'C' studs with a 25mm gap, two layers of 25mm Knauf Crown Partition Roll in the void, and two layers of 15mm Knauf Soundshield on each of the outer faces.
Preliminary on-site acoustic tests show that this construction achieves airborne sound reduction of 49dB (DnTw + Ctr) which exceeds the 45dB required under the Building Regulations.
A further 2dB is anticipated when the rooms are fully complete.
Comparable performance in a typical Robust Detail solution (E-WS-1) would require a 263mm wall - the 78mm saving translating to an extra square metre of valuable floor space for every 13 metres of wall.
The new construction also provides 90 minutes' fire resistance.
Litmus also makes extensive use of Knauf Putty Pads to insulate electrical socket boxes.
The pads of mouldable intumescent putty are used in place of traditional baffle boxes to provide acoustic insulation and fire protection outside (at first fix) or inside socket boxes in drywall constructions.
They are a major time-saver for the installer, with each taking only two to three minutes to complete - against more than 20 for traditional techniques.
