Brio Dry Screed provides durable flat surface

A Knauf Drywall product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 14, 2008

Knauf Drywall has launched Brio Dry Floor Screed, a gypsum fibre board with precision tiered edge that is claimed to be an ideal base for floors in new or refurbished residential and office buildings.

Knauf Brio is light and narrow and provides a strong, durable and flat surface.

Its thermal transparency makes the screed for use over under-floor heating and cooling systems.

For easy transport and installation, Knauf Brio boards are 600 x 1,200mm - weighing 22-30kg, depending on their type.

There are four Knauf Brio boards: Brio 18 (standard 18mm thick); Brio 23 (reinforced 23mm - recommended for under-floor heating applications); Brio 18WF and Brio 23WF (composite boards with an additional 10mm laminated wood fibre layer providing high mechanical load resistance and effective footfall sound insulation).

Installing Knauf Brio boards is said to be simple and fast, with no special skills required.

The precise tiered edges are glued with Knauf Brio Joint Adhesive and then screwed together to ensure a solid bond.

Knauf Brio is said to be quick to lay, saving installation time.

The new floor can take traffic as soon as the glue has hardened.

Knauf Brio is thermally transparent, making it efficient for use with under-floor heating systems.

Temperature changes are achieved almost immediately - so there is no premium to pay for heating up a mass of concrete before the environment starts to feel warm.

Knauf Brio has good thermal transmission coefficients: standard units - 0.05-0.08m2K/W.

Knauf said the low installation thickness makes Knauf Brio ideal for refurbishments - and the total height of 23mm means an efficient under-floor heating system can be installed for a total loss in room height of 50mm.

Knauf Brio is also lighter than traditional wet screeds, reducing loads and costly structural requirements in multi-storey buildings.

Brio Dry Floor Screed is available from distributors and builders' merchants, and comes with a range of accessories including Knauf Brio Joint Adhesive, Knauf Brio Screws (17 and 22mm), Knauf Edge Strip, and Knauf Levellers for correcting uneven substrates.
