Knauf MP75 plaster enables time and cost savings

A Knauf Drywall product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jan 27, 2009

MP75 one-coat projection plaster from Knauf Drywall has been used in place of traditional two-coat, hand-applied plaster at Kingsway hospital in Derby.

Knauf MP75 projection plaster is said to be up to three times faster than manual plastering and enables a three-man team to complete up to 150m2 of high-quality plaster every day.

Main contractor Costain is building the Kingsway hospital facilities for the Derbyshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust.

The project includes four buildings - three residential units with accommodation for 36, 14 and eight patients respectively, and a clinical support services building.

Costain agreed to try Knauf MP75 on two walls - and promptly switched the entire interior plastering job to the Knauf system.

The plastering, which also included sections of curved wall, was completed by specialist interiors subcontractors Amba Interiors and Shades of Kuler.

Richard Wood, Costain construction manager at Kingsway hospital, said Knauf MP75 cut the plastering schedule from 28 weeks to 16 weeks, providing more leeway for the other finishing trades.

MP75 projection plaster is specially formulated for one-coat application on most interior wall surfaces - particularly brickwork, blockwork and concrete.

MP75 is machine-applied to a wall in short horizontal bands, then simply ruled and floated manually for a durable, smooth white finish.

MP75 heads Knauf Drywall's range of machine-applied plasters for use on masonry and plasterboard.

These include MPFinish for a high-quality skim finish on plasterboard, and the new range of Knauf Readymix Plasters for fast-track machine application on most types of walls and ceilings.
