Koramic's low-pitch Actua clay roof tile has been selected by Drew Smith for two new residential developments in Kings Worthy, Hampshire.

Drew Smith chose the Actua as the slate tiles originally specified lacked the technical qualities to go down to a pitch of 17 degrees.

The Actua - which offers the lowest pitch of any clay roof tile in the UK - provides a practical and aesthetically viable alternative to slate.

Tony Gash, surveyor at Drew Smith said: "Given the low pitch, our first thought was to use a concrete tile".

"However, this wasn't permitted by the local planning department who specified a more natural product that was in keeping with the local area and surrounding architecture".

"As a result, we had to find a clay roof tile that had the technical features to meet our requirements"".

"Available in seven different colours, including natural red, multiblend, burgundy, brown, grey and champagne, Drew Smith selected the Actua clay tile in slate engobe".

"The large format tile requires only 10.5 pieces per sq m and features a variable gauge".

"It is also quick and easy to fix, and requires minimal labour".

"We've been really impressed by the overall appearance of the roof," says Tony Gash.

"The curving edge has ensured a high quality finish".

"Plus, the colour and shape of the tile makes it look very similar to slate which was what we originally specified.".
