Boden link at Meridian Park by KPW

A KPW Architects product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 22, 2009

KPW Architects, one of the East Midlands leading architectural practices, has secured planning approval for an innovative industrial bridge linking two buildings at Meridian Business Park, Leicester.

KPW has designed the high level link for mail order clothing retailer, Boden at the company's existing warehouse and office premises adjacent the M1 motorway.

Following acquisition of the lease of the former Autoglass building also on the site, Boden's warehousing facilities will be expanded across a further 7,750 m.

To enable a conveyor transmission of goods between the two warehouses, KPW has designed a 90 metre bridge which will cross existing internal roadways and parking areas as well as allowing for uninterrupted articulated vehicle access to the service yard.

KPW director Tim Clark said: "We have been working alongside Boden for seven years now and the new bridge represents the fifth phase in the overall redevelopment scheme.

In 2003, KPW enabled the company to centralise all their warehousing into one unit for national and world distribution and, since then, subsequent phases including additional racking, internal structural modifications and highly complex fire prevention strategies have been implemented.

"The design of the conveyor belt bridge link is certainly an unusual one, with the two warehouses being on different heights and floor levels, but with planning approval secure, I greatly look forward to witnessing this new phase in Boden's development".

Chris Potter, operations, development and support manager at Boden added: "This is the latest in a long line of work that has allowed us to centralise our operations in Leicester and continue to expand without the need to consider re-location.

We have found KPW excellent partners to work with and look forward to continuing to work with them on future projects".

Work on the conveyor belt bridge is due to commence in Summer 2009.
