Control
10th annual "Celebrating Construction Awards" provided the perfect setting for LABC Chief Executive Paul Everall to draw attention to the current high political profile of building control.
The awards were held on Friday, 25 April 2008 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham Birmingham City Council's Building Consultancy service organised the awards

Guest speaker Paul Everall welcomed the audience and congratulated all of the finalists on their projects.
The awards were open to all West Midlands companies with categories for leadership in people development, supply chain partnerships, sustainable development and innovation.
Paul Everall said, "There has probably never been a time - at least not since the Great Fire of London - when building control has been so important".
"Building control is at the forefront of countering climate change and we view our role in reducing carbon emissions as critical".
He continued by saying, "We look forward to working with the Government on improving the current system of building control in England and Wales, as proposed in their recent consultation paper".
He pointed out that building control is the one local government regulatory service, which is subject to competition from the private sector, and whist proving challenging, this has led to the service developing in an efficient customer-friendly way.
Speaking on behalf of LABC, he said that local authority building control can beat any private sector building control body because of "our local knowledge and dedication to helping achieve better communities".
The award event was co-hosted by Birmingham City Council, the Chartered Institute of Building, and the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence.
In addition to the Building Consultancy awards, this event hosted the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence's Constructing Excellence Awards.
