LABC Training is the groundbreaking industry training initiative with the mission to develop knowledge and skills on both the inspection and client sides of the business.

LABC National Director of Business Development, Philip Hammond, explains the positioning of LABC Training "It's all about ensuring that the knowledge pool is continuously refreshed and expanded within the whole industry"

He continues, "RICS, CIOB and ABE do a fantastic job working with colleges and universities to deliver new professionals through accredited training".

"However, there is another job to be done in keeping both the client side of the business and building control surveyors up-to-date and in touch with new developments." LABC Training has the advantage of an existing network of 4,000 LABC managers and surveyors, many of whom already provide local or regional training.

Anna Thompson, the newly appointed Director of LABC Training, has a vision of a more unified approach to building standards.

She says, "LABC has more interaction with industry than any other organisation".

"After 25 years of competition we still have a 70% market share, so we are in a unique position to marry the needs of industry with the job of building control surveyors".

In her previous role as Building Control Manager at East Devon District Council, Anna had responsibility for both business and people development.

As well as helping to channel her council's strategies on sustainable buildings to her clients and customers, Anna also developed a structured training plan for her team and provided voluntary support as a counsellor for RICS APC candidates.
