Windows restaurant at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel, one of London's most spectacular restaurants has reopened after a major refurbishment by Lambro Contracts.

One of London's most spectacular restaurants has reopened after a major refurbishment by Lambro Contracts The specialist shopfitting and interiors contractor has transformed the world-famous "Windows" Restaurant on the 28th floor of the Park Lane Hilton Hotel in London

As the "Windows on the World" restaurant it had, for decades, afforded tens of thousands of diners one of the most spectacular views over London, including Hyde Park which it overlooks.

In a four-month project which was completed on time, the Lambro team stripped the old 1960's interior and rebuilt the famous restaurant to an innovative new concept by United Designs.

The project, started in January 2006, was completed in time for the restaurant to reopen officially on May 19 under top chef Chris Galvin.

Lambro Contracts, based in Wickford, Essex installed a completely-new electrical and air conditioning infrastructure and rebuilt the restaurant to its 21st century design concept.

The new "Windows" has two showpiece features.

A six-metre stainless steel and wood wall installation which comprises the wine cellar was hand built by Lambro's craftsmen who are experts at working with many materials.

The major talking point of the restaurant decor is a 10-metre long twisted brass "ribbon" which hangs from the ceiling.

Weighing in at approximately one tonne, the massive ribbon was manufactured in Italy and its creators flew in to supervise its installation by the Lambro team.

Lambro's Contracts Director John Pace said: "The ribbon is a showpiece of the restaurant and will attract a great deal of attention".

"Getting it into place was not a big operation as we had all the right equipment ready".

"As a project, the Windows contract went very well and we had no real setbacks.

Everything was bespoke which meant we had to source some of the materials for a few of the more unusual aspects of the design such as mother of pearl and leather hides from the United States and the brass ribbon and marble from Italy".

"One difficulty was that we were working on the 28th floor of a busy hotel whose workings we did not wish to disrupt so materials had to go up and down in a service lift".

In carrying out the designers' wishes, the Lambro team gave the restaurant an added vista.

Taking down an old stage area revealed an eastern view towards Canary Wharf from the new bar area that the restaurant had not had before.

While a Lambro team was working on the Windows contract, a second team was transforming the five suites on an executive floor of the hotel.

Floor 24 was completely refurbished and now has a series of elegant suites that celebrities, rock stars and top business people will use while in the capital.

Many of the fittings for the restaurant and suites were hand made by craftsmen at Lambro's centre of operations at Wickford in Essex.

Lambro Contracts is a shopfitting and interiors specialist whose recent prestige work has included top London casinos and hotels.
