Sheerframe fabricator and installer Campion Glass has completed a major window replacement project for National Grid at its Pipelines Maintenance Centre (PMC) headquarters in Ambergate, Derbyshire.

Managed by Leicester architects Pick Everard, the project involved removing single-glazed aluminium framed windows which were delivering low thermal efficiency and replacing them with new Sheerframe PVC windows This has improved the working environment within the building significantly by eliminating draughts in winter and overheating in the summer sunshine, as well as cutting external noise through the better acoustic standard derived from the airtight weatherseals and the double glazed units

Using the Sheerframe 7000 system from L.B.Plastics - a company itself based in Ambergate and nearby Nether Heage, Campion Glass fabricated and installed 80 windows including some which feature Plastisol infill panels where brickwork is behind the frames.

With the aim of providing a low maintenance, cost effective solution for National Grid, Campion created casement and tilt and turn windows which offer high thermal efficiency with aesthetics in keeping with the building's original design.

Like all windows and doors fabricated using Sheerframe profile systems, Campion Glass's windows feature multi-chamber frames to reduce heat loss.

The PVC profile itself is also manufactured using calcium organic stabilisers, rather than lead additives, and is totally recyclable at the end of an independently certified 35+ year service life.
