Leadbitter award for complex refurbishment project

A respectful approach to local people has won the Leadbitter Group recognition from the Considerate Constructors' Scheme, for the construction of a new Children's Centre in Didcot.

Ettore Veschini, Special Projects Site Manager, has picked up a Bronze National Award for the construction of the new Children's Centre, which provides a range of services, including childcare, health and social care, adult training and employment advice.

It was developed by Oxfordshire County Council and is managed by the adjacent Stephen Freeman School governors.

Ett received his award in recognition of the outstanding consideration he showed to the occupants of the centre, the school and the surrounding neighbourhood.

He demonstrated a thoughtful and helpful approach to any problems with which he was faced.

The project was a highly complex refurbishment, involving mechanical and electrical installation, decoration, floor covering, re-roofing and a number of extensions and reconfigurations of the existing building.

All this had to be achieved while the building remained fully occupied and operational.

Ett worked closely with the centre and the school, keeping access clear and scheduling work to fit in with their requirements.

Throughout the project there were no incidents or complaints and, most importantly, no breaches of health and safety.

Ian Batchelor, Special Projects Construction Manager said, "We are very proud of Ett and his achievements on this project under very difficult conditions".

The Considerate Constructors Scheme, of which Leadbitter is an associate member, is a national initiative set up by the construction industry to improve its image.

Sites that register with the scheme are monitored against a Code of Considerate Practice designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.
