Glazed System For The Stars
Alco Beldan have completed an installation at a recently renovated property in North London which used to be the home of the golden couple Lulu and the late Maurice Gibb.
Cyril Balcombe, Divisional Manager of Letchworth Roofing Single Ply highlighted the benefits of the on site Project Manager.
"With three or four roofs being worked on at any one time tight logistical control of the work was critical".
"Adhering to the timing schedule was essential to ensure that other trades had access without delay".
"Tight management of labour was also necessary as all personnel on the site had to be accredited to the Construction Skill Certification Scheme, a requirement that Letchworth Roofing with its 34 years of investment in employee training was happy to comply with." Although it was only one of the 34 roofs that Letchworth Roofing worked on the most striking in appearance was a single ply Rotunda roof with Corus metal decking covered with a Ds-Pe Trocal vapour barrier, Kingspan TR26 foil faced insulation topped off with a Trocal Slate Grey 'S' membrane mechanically attached system with a Trocal standing seam profile.
The finish of the roof mirrored the standing seam metal decking system used elsewhere on the development.
The majority of the high level flat roofs with a total area of 2,800 square metres involved the use of Alumasc felt roof materials.
Corus metal decking was covered with an Alumasc Hi-Ten bond vapour barrier and cut to fall insulation with a Derbigum Charcoal Mineral cap sheet finish.
Derbigum is only installed by Approved Contractors such as Letchworth Roofing and offers five different installation options.
The no flame option with seams torch sealed was used at Stoke Mandeville to provide increased site safety combined with ease and speed of application.
Letchworth Roofing also worked on eight concrete deck roofs.
On these an Alumasc vapour control layer, cut to fall insulation, Alumasc Derbibond 'S' and Derbigum Mineral cold applied cap sheet system was used topped off with paving and pebbles.
The project was extremely challenging due to the number of roofs, range of roofing types and the schedule requirements of the main contractors.
Cyril Balcombe however is adamant that this was just the type of challenge that Letchworth Roofing are eager to take on".
"The experience and expertise of our roofing personnel together with our health and safety culture provides us with complete confidence in our abilities to deal with complex projects such as Stoke Mandeville.".
