From showroom to show home
Disused car showroom in Leyton, east London, acquired by ASRA Greater London Housing Association in May last year, has made way for a development of new affordable homes for local people.
And for tenants who prefer to rent, there will be 23 apartments built as part of a GBP5.8million deal struck between LHA-ASRA and Kings Oak Homes.
LHA-ASRA's homes are part of a new 255-property development.
Designed to help people who otherwise can not afford to get a foot up on the property ladder, shared ownership gives buyers the chance to purchase a percentage of a new home, while paying rent on the remainder.
Over time they can then increase their share.
LHA will also be providing four two-bedroom apartments for rent which have been specially adapted for people with disabilities.
John Stemp, LHA Managing Director, said: "As it becomes increasingly difficult to get on the housing ladder, offering shared ownership properties becomes more important.
We're delighted to be providing these homes." Robert Nettleton, LHA-ASRA Group Regeneration Director, said: "We're delighted to have agreed this deal with Kings Oak Homes, which comes on the back of our very successful regeneration scheme of Newlife apartments." LHA is contributing GBP3.4 million of its own money towards the scheme, with the Government's Housing Corporation providing a further GBP2.4 million.
