Housing and regeneration group LHA-ASRA to take part in pilot scheme introducing Energy Performance Certificates for social housing properties.

Housing and regeneration group LHA-ASRA has been awarded GBP42,243 to take part in a pilot scheme introducing Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for social housing properties.

EPCs are a central part of the Government's climate change strategy.

The carbon savings from domestic EPCs are estimated to be 26million tonnes of carbon by 2020.

Homes make up 27% of the UK's carbon emissions.

The pilot scheme will mean registered social landlords and the Housing Corporation can iron out any kinks in the practical implications before the compulsory introduction of EPCs for the sale, rent and construction of all properties by the end of 2008.

The grant will meet half the actual costs incurred in gaining an Energy Performance Certificate for a home.

LHA-ASRA will make up the balance of the costs.

Group CEO of LHA-ASRA, Atul Patel, said: "LHA-ASRA is delighted to be involved in the pilot scheme of the Energy Performance Certificates and we are looking forward to being able to do our bit to halt climate change".

More than GBP2.8M of bids were received by the Housing Corporation, considerably over the GBP2M budget for the programme.

A number of factors had to be considered in allocating the grants including the number of assessors available to undertake the work; how proposals contributed to the programme and value for money.
