Tradical Hemcrete and ModCell create ModCell Hemp, the first 'better than zero carbon' prefabricated panel solution.

Developers of Tradical Hemcrete, the unique and highly sustainable lime-hemp building product that locks up CO2, are partnering with ModCell Limited, providers of the UK's leading renewable prefabricated cladding system Together, they have created a new and innovative carbon negative building product - ModCell Hemp

ModCell Hemp is set to make a huge impact on the future of sustainable building and construction.

It is based on ModCell's existing offsite-manufactured system, which uses modern methods of construction to create wall panels with straw bale infill.

The system is now available with Tradical Hemcrete as the filling for the timber-framed ModCell panels.

The Hemp panels will typically measure 3m x 2m and 300mm to 500mm thick depending on what is required for each project.

Hemp is mixed with lime and sprayed into the ModCell panel, drying to create a structural Cellulose Insulation Core (CIC).

A protective lime render is then used to plaster the wall.

Tradical Hemcrete has been developed by Lhoist, the world's biggest producer of lime products.

UK Tradical production and distribution is being delivered in partnership with Lime Technology, Hemcore and Castle Cement.

Tradical Hemcrete is a hemp-lime solution used in the construction of walls.

It comprises a unique blend of specially prepared hemp shiv (Tradical HF) and a special lime-based binder (Tradical HB) which together form a bio-composite building material.

Tradical Hemcrete locks in around 110kg of CO2 per m of wall providing a net saving of tens of tonnes during the construction of a typical house.

By replacing traditional building materials with Tradical Hemcrete, the potential savings from house building activity alone could run into millions of tonnes of CO2 per year - a benefit the UK cannot afford to ignore.

The ModCell Hemp panel offers an excellent thermal performance due to its high insulation properties and unique phase change characteristics.

The new ModCell Hemp panels help to stabilise internal temperatures to further reduce energy consumption - and lower the cost of utility bills.

Ian Pritchett, Managing Director of Lime Technology said, "The combination of TradicalHemcrete and ModCell to create the first prefabricated hemp lime panel solution in the world is an achievement we are all very proud of.

"This innovative partnership has produced one of the best value materials for low impact, sustainable and commercially viable construction the UK has ever seen.".
