Building contractor Linford Group has been awarded the GBP2.4 million contract to develop Oaklands House in Worcester into high quality residential accommodation The contract will see Linford renovate the original residence into eight apartments with the addition of nine new apartments and four town houses to be built within the grounds

While Oaklands House was originally a private residence dating back to 1904, an extension was added in the 1960's and was later used as a nursing and care home.

The building also has a number of original features including a carved oak entrance porch with matching stained glass screens, an oak feature staircase, as well as original timber skirting boards and panels.

Robert Pearson, managing director at Linford Group said: "This impressive new development in a desirable residential area of Worcester is an exciting contract for us to secure.

"While it is predominantly a new-build contract that will see two new buildings erected within the grounds, it also requires some specialist restoration skills to ensure the character of the original building is not lost".

Linford's restoration craftsmen will be working closely with its new-build team to ensure the original features are retained and returned to their former glory.

Oaklands House is the latest in a series of high quality apartment contracts awarded to Linford Group.

Work starts in July 2005 and is due to be completed by summer 2006.
