Lichfield-based building contractor Linford Group has appointed Simon Linford as Executive Chairman.

Lichfield-based building contractor Linford Group has appointed Simon Linford as Executive Chairman.

Simon represents the fourth generation of the Linford family to take his place at the helm of the successful family building business which operates across the Greater Midlands, the North West and North Wales.

He takes on the role of Executive Chairman from his uncle David Linford, who retains a strong involvement as a director of the business, especially concentrating on the restoration market.

Simon said: "Linford Group is a very successful family building business which has reached a very exciting time in its 129 year history".

"In recent years the company has considerably strengthened its presence across the North West and North Wales, as well as in the Greater Midlands.

"This has been achieved by building on a reputation as a major New Build contractor in sectors such as residential, education, health, commerce and leisure, as well as excellence in restoration, fine crafts and furniture".

"Linford Group is now well placed to continue to increase that reputation for the highest quality across all areas of the business and to continue its recent growth.

That is something I am very excited to be part of".

Prior to this appointment, Simon has been a non-executive director of the holding company F and EV Linford for a number of years".

"He said: "This is an exciting role, and one to which I am very consciously bringing something slightly wider in terms of corporate experience, commercial presence and perhaps an additional style of leadership and management".

""I see my appointment as the second part of a story that started with the recent appointment of Robert Pearson as Managing Director, six months ago.

"Robert is a man steeped in the construction industry, someone who knows it inside out and has very exciting views about how we can build on our successful history with a real focus on modernisation and innovation".

""In the short time we have worked together I think we have already confirmed what an excellent combination we will be bringing to its existing management teams.

Linford Group is one of the longest established construction businesses in the UK, enjoying a regional and national reputation for excellence in the restoration and fine crafts sectors.

The company has worked on some of the nation's most famous buildings including The Tower of London, Windsor Castle, and Liverpool, Lichfield and Chester Cathedrals, as well as many buildings for the National Trust in England, Scotland and Wales.

The majority of Linford Group's turnover however comes from new build contracting across the Midlands, the North West and North Wales in sectors including residential, education, leisure and commercial.

Recent flagship contracts have included the Broadway Plaza apartments in Birmingham, the new Wolverhampton Wanderers Training Ground, the Steam Mill apartments in Chester, Rylands Library in Manchester and Compton Verney in Warwickshire.

This combination of modern new build techniques and traditional stone masonry and joinery skills also has earned Linford Group a leading role building new classical houses for discerning clients.

Commenting on the appointment, David Linford said: "We are confident that we will continue to develop a great business at Linford Group".

"All the signs are there - a reputation for excellence, loyal and experienced staff and strong on-going customer relationships.

"Simon has the right corporate business skills and the fresh perspective required to take us forward.

Working closely with myself and Robert Pearson, and the rest of the board, he will ensure that Linford Group continues to innovate and stay ahead of the game".

"Innovation and tradition are a potent combination, and something that makes a successful family business like Linford something of which we are all very proud.
