Gasoliers return to St Peters
A major milestone has been passed in the restoration and re-use of St Peter's in Ancoats, Manchester.
Funding for the project has been provided by the European Regional Development Fund, Government Office for the West Midlands, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Advantage West Midlands.
The building was originally constructed in 1902 and, like many similar Victorian amenities, was closed during the latter part of the 20th century.
The regeneration of Nechells Baths was the brainchild of the Birmingham Foundation charity and the building was bought from Birmingham City Council in 2003.
The regeneration project involved extensive restoration work to the exterior and interior of the main building.
The original pool has been covered over to provide a more practical use of the area, and with the addition of a new extension Linford has created some 2,300m2 of space, a 45 per cent increase on existing accommodation.
Simon Linford, executive chairman at Linford Group said: "We are extremely proud to have been involved with the regeneration of Nechells Baths.
The project has allowed our restoration specialists to work closely with our new-build team to ensure the heritage of the baths is retained while developing the building in to a modern and functional facility".
David Bucknall, chairman of Birmingham Foundation said: "It is marvellous to see that our vision of five years ago has become a reality.
"Thanks to the experienced and professional restoration team from Linford Group we have been able to transform a disused civic liability into a multi-use community asset.".
