Building contractor Linford Group has been awarded the GBP2.4 million contract to develop Oaklands House in Worcester into high quality residential accommodation.
A combination of floor strengthening, roof repairs and some other structural repairs, along with the creation of a new entrance lobby, will allow the school to extend and modernise existing library facilities, as well as creating improved staff facilities.
Bursar Carl Bilson said: "Our aim is to create the most modern of learning facilities while preserving the character and feel of this splendid historic building".
"We have chosen to work with Linford Group because their pedigree in working on historic buildings and achieving this sort of delicate balance is second-to-none".
Repton School was founded in 1557, and includes among its distinguished alumni C B Fry, Roald Dahl, Graeme Garden and Jeremy Clarkson".
"David Linford, director at Lichfield-based Linford Group, said: "Repton School's historic buildings contribute towards a unique learning environment for pupils, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to both the conservation and enhancement of that environment".
"Linford's skilled craftsmen have worked on many of Britain's most famous historic buildings, and we are proud to be able to add the Old Priory to that list".
The contract, worth in excess of £400,000, is due to be finished in September 2006.
