Gasoliers return to St Peters
A major milestone has been passed in the restoration and re-use of St Peter's in Ancoats, Manchester.
Simon Linford, executive chairman at Linford Group said: "There is currently a skills shortage across the construction industry in general so it is vital that we invest in the next generation of our highly skilled workforce.
"This year's apprentices are some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated we have ever seen.
All of the apprentices have a passion for their chosen trade and have thrown themselves right into both the on-site training and class based lessons." The Linford training scheme covers bricklaying, carpentry and stonemasonry with each apprentice choosing a specific skill to develop to the highest standards.
This year Linford has taken on 10 full-time apprentices from across the Midlands.
Six are currently at Wollaton Hall in Nottingham: Martin Gallear and Kevin Marson have started the bricklaying scheme; Scott Wells and Richard Judge are currently training to be master carpenters; and James Brown and Phil Westwood recently started on the stonemasonry scheme.
James said: "I have always had a passion for buildings and the Linford apprenticeship scheme has given me the opportunity to learn some of the more specialist masonry skills while working on some of the country's most beautiful buildings." Linford Group also runs training programmes in surveying and operations management from its Midlands headquarters in Lichfield.
