Original Manchester City stadium site at Maine Road, Moss Side signed over to the new homes builder.

Senior management from Lowry Homes Plc, plus key figures from Manchester City Council and national regeneration agency English Partnerships, were present when the original Manchester City stadium site at Maine Road, Moss Side was signed over to the new homes builder Work can now begin to ready the site for an ambitious housing scheme on this significant inner city location, to be called The Maine Place

440 homes will be built, ranging in size from one to four bedrooms, featuring innovative design and advanced insulation standards, providing excellent "green" credentials.

The Maine Place will revitalise the Moss Side area and provide top quality homes for local people, including affordable housing.

In particular, a number of properties will be made available through English Partnerships' First Time Buyers' Initiative, to enable people to get on the property ladder.

A further assisted purchase scheme, New Build Homebuy, is in association with Mosscare and both schemes will be administered by Plumlife.

New community facilities will also be created on the site.

A state-of-the-art school, merging St.

Edward's RC School with Bishop Bilsborrow RC Primary, will be created as part of the development.

It is also hoped to deliver a new health centre.

Both Lowry Homes and Manchester City Council are committed to assisting local Moss Side and Rusholme residents to be the first to benefit from life in these easy to run new homes.

Lowry Homes will restrict the marketing of the development to the local area for a set period once sales commence and will offer local buyers two affordable housing schemes.

Speaking after the signing-over of the site John Kilburn, Lowry Homes' Managing Director said: "As a local Manchester house building company, originally established in Hulme, it will be a genuine pleasure to prioritise local people once homes at The Maine Place are available for sale".

"I firmly believe that we are going to build a development that the whole of Manchester can take pride in and I would strongly advise any first time buyers living in the Moss Side and Rusholme areas to complete an application on Plumlife's website as soon as possible to establish whether they are eligible for affordable housing assistance".

John Kilburn's comments were endorsed by City Council leader Sir Richard Leese, who said: "The Maine Place development represents a unique opportunity to improve housing quality and choice in the Moss Side and Rusholme area, for existing residents and newcomers alike".

"It will also bring improved community facilities and act as a catalyst to further improvements".

"This is an exciting development".

"I'm delighted that current Moss Side residents will have the first chance to acquire a new home there.".
