Major Maine Road regeneration scheme kicks off
The Maine Place, Lowry Homes Plc's most ambitious regeneration scheme to date, occupying the site of Manchester City FC's former Maine Road stadium, has been officially opened
This unusual step is in recognition of the importance that both Lowry Homes and Manchester City Council place on the contribution made by these keyworkers to the community and to the local economy.
It follows a similar and very successful restricted sales period for local Moss Side and Rusholme residents, when the first houses on the development were released earlier this year.
Becky Leighton, Lowry Homes' Sales Director, is anticipating high levels of interest from eligible keyworkers and said: "Our original restricted sales initiative was so popular that we sold our planned 2008 allocation within the first few weeks".

Local house buyers set to score at Maine Road
Original Manchester City stadium site at Maine Road, Moss Side signed over to the new homes builder.
"I'm really pleased that our first apartments at Maine Road will be made available to a wider audience of local people, plus staff in three of Manchester's most respected institutions".
Councillor Alistair Cox, chair of the Maine Road Steering Group, said: "This development is helping drive the regeneration of Moss Side and Rusholme".
"I'm delighted that it's proving so popular, improving the range of housing available in the area both for existing residents and new residents such as keyworkers".
The restricted sales period is scheduled to start in summer and is designed to provide sufficient time for eligible potential buyers to visit the development, receive full information and decide whether to make a reservation - before the properties are offered to the general public.
The apartments will be available at attractive prices and there will also be a first time buyer initiative on a limited number of properties.
The Maine Place development will consist of 441 new homes (197 3 or 4 bedroom family homes and 244 apartments ranging from 1 to 3 bedrooms).
A new state-of-the-art primary school, merging St Edward's RC and Bishop Bilsborrow RC, will be created as part of the development.
There is also an agreement in principle from Manchester Primary Care Trust for a new health centre on the site.
