LSI Architects announces three of its schemes have been awarded four Norfolk Association of Architects Craftsmanship accolades in the recent awards.

The awards were presented at The Norfolk Area Joint Consultative Committee for Building's Annual Awards Dinner and Ceremony at De Vere Dunston Hall, Ipswich Road, Norwich.

The awards were held in collaboration with the National Federation of Builders to recognise outstanding skills and craftsmanship by trades people, architects and building contractors in Norfolk.

The high standards of craftsmanship that distinguish the Norfolk construction industry have been assessed by a panel of judges and chaired by the Norfolk Association of Architects.

There were 7 award categories.

The winning schemes designed by Norwich and London based LSI Architects are...

Category: New Residential - Grouped Buildings.

Awarded: INTO, UEA Norwich - Commendation and Diploma.

- A new GBP30M study centre for international students, at INTO University of East Anglia, based at the UEA campus in Norwich.

The first of many world-class centres planned by INTO, this state-of-the-art centre provides new academic and teaching facilities with 415 new student residences comprising study bedrooms with ensuite facilities.

Category: New Extensions.

Awarded: Lincoln House, Wymondham College, Wymondham - Diploma.

The new, GBP6.75 million expansion scheme for sixth form boarding facilities at Wymondham College arranged in a 'wishbone' style extension to an existing boarding block, provides 115 new ensuite single study bedrooms and support accommodation, library, IT rooms, new communal activity spaces and an expansion of the existing dining facilities.

The judges were so stunned by the College design that they broke with tradition and created a new, special Award for 'Design Excellence'.

Category: Restorations and Alterations.

Awarded: The Forum South Wing Interior, Norwich - Diploma.

This GBP1.2M interior design scheme for The Forum Trust involved the re-working of the 'south wing' of the Forum in Norwich, a millennium project designed by Sir Michael Hopkins and Partners.

The scheme includes a new glazed extension to the ground floor with internal facilities that include a new reception, tourist information, a shop and a new digital gallery.

The lower floors incorporate a new studio for the BBC that is open to the public, and a 120 seat auditorium for conference use and small scale performances.

David Andrews, Principal Member of LSI Architects said: "The practice is delighted to have secured these prestigious local awards again this year".

Last year 3 buildings designed by LSI Architects won an NAA Craftsmanship Award.

They were...

- Paper Mill Yard, King St., Norwich - a riverside development of 180 luxury apartments with underground parking.

- The University of East Anglia (UEA) Residences Phase 2 in Norwich - 900 bedrooms in five blocks, with single study bedrooms all having ensuite facilities, communal kitchen / dining rooms, along with staff support accommodation, wheelchair accessible bedrooms and servicing facilities.

- Notre Dame High School's Classroom of the Future, Norwich - one of a series of pilot schemes being undertaken across the country to create innovative learning environments that are imaginative and stimulating.
