Luxalon ceiling systems have contributed to the remodelling of the historic Swiss Cottage Central Library in London, NW3.
Designed by Sir Basil Spence in 1962-64, the Grade II listed Library has been refurbished by architects, John McAslan + Partners, in partnership with Camden Council and through meticulous negotiations with English Heritage.
"It is clear that the project is a success in architectural and heritage terms, and provides Camden with an excellent 21st century library facility".
"It demonstrates how change can be successfully achieved in listed buildings".
"Through careful analysis and a sensitive design approach, the Council and #146;s needs have been accommodated by means of a scheme that has also consolidated and clarified the building and #146;s essential qualities.
Philip Davies, Director, English Heritage, London Region, 25th June 2003 The 75C linear ceiling system has been specially adapted by Hunter Douglas who worked closely with the architect, lighting suppliers and air conditioning installers, to ensure it met all the design requirements of the building.
The brief required that the new ceiling and lighting fittings remain in keeping with Spence and #146;s original design intent.
To achieve this aim, Hunter Douglas developed a new range of virtually invisible access panels for the project.
The success of the project has led to Luxalon ceilings being considered for other significant library projects still at the design stage.
Other Luxalon systems have already been installed in the Library Association and #146;s headquarters in London.
Luxalon linear ceiling systems offer a practical and flexible solution for a huge variety of architectural projects.
Suitable for interior and exterior use, their many benefits include enhanced acoustics, swift installation and easy access to the plenum.
The ceilings consist of panels clipped onto carrier systems, with the panel lengths made to measure to speed installation and minimise the need for joining.
They offer great design possibilities, with open and closed ceilings plus curved and radial designs all possible.
A variety of colour and finish options further increase their versatility.
