Luxeon III, An 80-Lumen Long-Life LED
Lumileds' Luxeon family allows designers to achieve desired light output with fewer LEDs than the company's original 25-lumen product, simplify engineering and manufacturing.
The new PixelPAR 90L incorporates Luxeon technology to create a colour changing luminaire with a light output of up to 2,430 lumens at one metre and 175 lumens at over ten metres, providing clear, rich colour washes.
The success of the luminaires at Glastonbury paved the way for its rapid take up with ITV1's CDUK.
During the Glastonbury music festival twelve PixelPAR 90Ls were made available to all major artists performing on the main Pyramid Stage, including REM and Moby.

Industry's First Warm White LED
Lumileds have receives an Innovation Award from Wall Street Journal for industry's first Warm White LED. Now the incandescent-style glow removes barriers to LED adoption in general lighting.
The new lamps were used highly effectively as truss toners, making the stage superstructure glow effervescently into the night.
The lamps were also used in the Circus Tent and on the Lost World Stage.
The new weatherproof (submersible) PixelPAR 90's have been fitted to the trees in London's Leicester Square.
Specified by Westminster Council, the units provide a stunning uplight colour changing feature for the festive season.
The PixelPAR 90L is a completely self-contained lighting fixture using 90 Luxeon emitters, 30 each of red, green and blue, collimated to provide a six-degree beam angle.
The larger surface area of the LEDs makes it ideal for all types of wide illumination applications that require versatile wash fixtures.
Luxeon was selected for a range of benefits that it brings, including its low energy consumption and enhanced efficiency.
The new PixelPAR 90L utilises the Luxeon to achieve a rating of only 90 Watts, drawing an extremely low amount of power for the intense brightness it emits.
The PixelPAR 90L is typically 80 per cent more efficient than conventional lamps with filters, and brighter than the majority of 600 Watt moving light discharge light sources when saturated colours are compared.
Due to primary additive colour mixing there is a marked increase in performance of the LEDs, with substantially less energy lost in the colour mixing process.
In addition, the long life of Luxeon LEDs minimises time and financial investment in maintenance or 'on costs'.
The colour flexibility of Luxeon also allows the PixelPAR 90 to create a maximum of between 16 million and 6.8 billion colour permutations (dependent on 3 or 6 channel control), providing lighting designers with the basis for more creative, flexible lighting effects.
Control of the new lamp is through user interface or external dmx.
By utilising the latest technology PixelPAR 90L is free from the mechanical constraints of traditional colour wash devices.
As a light source it can be used as a multi-layer tool, offering the possibility of creating complex layered effects, such as chasing 'ripples' running simultaneously through a series of fixtures in both directions.
Chris Ewington of James Thomas Engineering said: "Luxeon gave us the ideal light source for the new PixelPAR lamp, providing us with a rugged, high brightness and energy efficient basis to create a luminaire that offers greater control and creativity.
The feedback from lighting directors at Glastonbury and more recently at CDUK was extremely positive and we are confident that a growing number will choose to work with PixelPAR for their events." Future accessories of the PixelPAR lamp are already being planned to offer beam angles that are focusable between 6 and 40 degrees, providing far greater control and flexibility than a generic PAR can.
Mark van den Berg, European Marketing Manager for Lumileds, said: "By utilising Luxeon in the new PixelPAR lamp James Thomas Engineering has created a powerful, creative solution for event lighting.
Increasingly events need lighting design that will achieve both operational flexibility and control, together with innovative design and techniques.
The PixelPAR 90L achieves all of this and more, and we are delighted that Luxeon was chosen to provide the basis for such a successful luminaire.".
