With this in mind it was only logical that Enviroblock from Masterblock, an Aggregate Industries business, was specified for use in the build.
Enviroblock is a range of new generation, environmentally engineered building block products, designed to meet the needs of today's society.
Produced from selected waste raw materials and manufactured in ISO 14001 compliant factories, Enviroblock is certified by the BRE Environmental Profile Scheme.
It was the first lightweight and dense block manufacturer to be certified and listed in the List of Approved Companies and Approved Construction Products, Red Book Volume 2.
Key to the project was the use of materials with green credentials to achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good for the building.
For this to happen the architects needed to specify sustainable materials.
The architects, Penoyre Prasad, specified Enviroblock for this project as it enabled them to design the school while building in sustainability at the same time.
"From the outset, the school had a clear environmental agenda and so wherever possible we specified materials that were sustainably produced and had a high recycled material content".
"For block work, we therefore specified Enviroblock because of its claimed environmental credentials - up to 93% recycled aggregate." comments Rafael Marks, Penoyre Prasad.
Enviroblock achieves an A rating in the Green Guide to Specification and can give additional credits towards both BREEAM and EcoHomes schemes.
It provides a complete range of sustainable products, helping the specifier achieve the highest rating in sustainable construction without requiring a change in construction technique.
