Mapei sponsored the Flooring challenge at the inaugural Test The Trades competition at Interbuild 2006.

Interbuild 2006 saw the inaugural Test The Trades competition, hosted by TV Celebrity Handyman Craig Phillips 5 Teams from various trades, from around the UK completed challenges from each others respective trades for the chance to be crowned 'King of the Trades' and walk away with a brand new Mercedes Vito Van

Mapei sponsored the Flooring challenge, and enlisted an experienced team from South Birmingham College to fly the flag for the flooring trade.

Musthaq, Pete and Dean, successfully beat the other trade representatives to win the competition, and the brand new van.

The competition brought together teams from roofing, plumbing, building and electrical trades on Sunday 23rd April, and despite already being well in the lead, the flooring team raced further ahead by being the first on the buzzers in the quick-fire question round.

South Birmingham College proved best in the flooring challenge, showing precision and the professional installation of floor tiles using Mapei's KERAQUICK adhesive.

The challenge was to mix the Keraquick correctly in the mixing bucket provided, cut the ceramic tiles and lay the floor to the herringbone design specified.

All this was to be finished in 15 minutes, with the final challenge being lifting the board upside down with a good shake to see who's tiles had been securely fixed! KERAQUICK is a fast setting polymer modified flexible adhesive for the fixing of all types of ceramic, porcelain and glass tiles, mosaics and non-moisture-sensitive natural stone, and is classified C2FT, S1.

It can also be mixed with LATEX PLUS additive for an increased flexibility to S2 standard.

Mapei would like to thank Barry Small and his team from South Birmingham College, and wish them the best of luck with their brand new Mercedes. Request free introductory details about products from Mapei UK ...
